How to Overcome a Setback

We all have setbacks in life, fitness, health, financial our lifestyle.  We can go on and on.  You are back on a financial track and your truck breaks down.  You finally purchased that bow and the limbs blowup!  You are not alone and are not unusual.


  • When is the last time you stopped your fitness program?
  • When is that last time you stopped eating healthy?
  • When is the last time you switch from water to a sugary drink?
  • When is the last time you decided to give up on something you love?


I am sure, because you are human, you can answer “yes” to one of the above questions.  We all have been there.  You start a routine, program, something, and 30…60…90 day later you lack motivation or something out of your control happens and you quit.  Maybe, you had a goal to become a professional archer and you get you’re a$$ handed to you at a local competition or you develop target panic and you hang up your bow?  Maybe, you wanted to take that world class buck that you had on camera, but he keeps eluding you, so you give up and settle?

What to Do?

Setbacks are coming, real and you can overcome them.  Is it easy? No!  Is it possible? Yes!  Here is a simple approach to overcoming a setback. 

  • Mindset – Know that everything is going to be ok.  Setbacks don’t last forever
  • Adult Time Out – Get away from it all for an hour, day maybe even a week.  Take a walk in the woods, mediate.  Do something that moves you away from thinking that the world is crashing on your head.
  • Get Rest – Lack of rest will increase your anxiety. 
  • Start Fresh – Start the day with positive thoughts and a plan.  Wake up ready to Crush It
  • End Strong – End each day looking at your accomplishments not your disappointments.
  • Use a Journal – Writing down your plan, goals and what you are grateful for each day.
  • Join a Group or Team of Like Minded People to Motivate
  • Be Grateful for the Small Things – Its not that bad. 

Begin stuck in a setback is not a fun place to be in.  However, they are inevitable and for each setback you overcome, the stronger and better you will become.
